Company overview

CareEZ is a Hong Kong clinical AI platform purpose-built for dysphagia management and care-food (照護食) standard adoption in residential and community eldercare settings. It is operated by Carewells Limited, a HKCSS-registered social enterprise (SE Tree Mark #83) founded to address one of Hong Kong's most urgent and under-resourced preventable health crises: aspiration pneumonia arising from undetected swallowing impairment in frail elderly residents.

Dysphagia — impaired swallowing — affects an estimated 28,000 to 42,000 residents of Hong Kong's 700+ residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) at any given moment, and a further 150,000 elderly individuals in the community. Every meal-safety decision at Hong Kong's care facilities is made not by a speech therapist or doctor, but by a frontline carer — one of approximately 640,000 people performing that role daily, the majority of whom have no structured dysphagia training and no clinical tool in their language.

CareEZ closes that gap. The platform integrates text, image, and voice modalities to deliver real-time dysphagia risk screening and 照護食 texture classification, fully aligned with the HKCSS 護食標準 (Hong Kong's nationally recognised care-food standard) and the international IDDSI framework (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative). Clinical outputs are governed by a safety protocol anchored at the HKU Swallowing Research Laboratory and independently stewarded through Full Linkage Community Care Association, a Hong Kong Section 88 registered charity that holds the public clinical dataset outside any commercial balance sheet.

Carewells' product reach is established, not aspirational. The SeniorDeli care-food line — 12 SKUs in active distribution through Getz Healthcare — is already present across 200+ partner care facilities in Hong Kong. The founder holds the HKSAR TechUp Y06 grant (Innovation and Technology Commission) and is in residence at the HKU TEC iDendron Seed Programme (cohort HKU25-05) through the sister project PQSafe. Carewells is a co-drafting institution of T/SATA 094-2025, the Greater Bay Area group standard on General Requirements for Dysphagia Foods for Elderly Care, and is named in companion standards T/SATA 084-2025 and T/SATA 085-2025.

CareEZ operates in Cantonese, English, Tagalog, and Bahasa Indonesia — the four languages of Hong Kong's frontline care workforce — and is deployable at the point of care via mobile browser, with no installation required. A live API is publicly accessible at demo.careez.org and api.seniordeli.com. The 照護食 Adoption Index — an independent, methodology-transparent benchmarking instrument for measuring care-food standard adoption across operators — is published at careez.org/adoption-index/.

CareEZ is seeking HKEX Impact and Sustainability Fund (IFS) 2026 support to fund a 30-site RCHE pilot and the deployment of multilingual Adoption Champions across Hong Kong's care facility network, targeting measurable reduction in aspiration pneumonia incidence and full IDDSI compliance across participating operators within 24 months of grant award.

Karen Chan
Clinical Advisor
HKU Swallowing Research Laboratory

Karen Chan has served as Clinical Advisor to Carewells Limited since founding. Her role is advisory: she owns the clinical-safety protocol, classifier-output review thresholds, escalation pathways from carer-run screening to qualified clinical assessment, IDDSI care-curriculum peer review, and Adoption Index methodology co-development.

Her affiliation with the HKU Swallowing Research Laboratory — Hong Kong's leading academic institution for swallowing science — is the governance anchor for CareEZ's clinical accuracy claims. Every model output, content article, and Champion-training module is reviewed under a framework Karen defines. Her engagement is confirmed and ongoing.

FL
Full Linkage Community Care Association
Independent Data Steward
Hong Kong Section 88 registered charity

Full Linkage Community Care Association is a registered Hong Kong s.88 charity and the independent co-steward of the public clinical resource created by the CareEZ programme. It is a separate legal entity with its own board, governance, and audited accounts, partnered with the HKU Swallowing Research Laboratory.

The co-steward structure answers the governance question every institutional reviewer asks: who owns the clinical dataset, and what prevents its privatisation? Full Linkage's s.88 status anchors the public-interest disposition of all data. Carewells operates as the delivery vehicle; the clinical resource sits outside its balance sheet.
